When Parisian tailor Maurice Courtelin discovers that one of his aristocratic clients, Viscount Gilbert de Varèze, is a deadbeat who never pays for the stuff he gets, he sets out to collect what is owed to him. He receives little money from the Viscount, who is frantic for his uncle, Duke D’Artelines, to be unaware of his debts. He proposes Maurice spend some time at the Château till the money is recovered. The Duke likes Maurice, who is introduced as a Baron, right away, but Princess Jeanette, who met him on the road earlier that day, doesn’t. Jeannette eventually falls in love with him.
